Formed by the professionals responsible for the first successful human organ delivery used in a transplant surgery via UAS and taking the first single-rotor UAS through the Federal Aviation Administration’s UAS Type and Production Certification process, MissionGO has been trailblazing the UAS industry by innovating critical infrastructure inspections, medical and commercial cargo delivery, and UAS training and program stand-up.

At MissionGO, our top priority is safety. MissionGO has been awarded a 3-year contract with Southern California Edison to conduct overhead line inspections utilizing UAS and qualified line inspectors and is looking to bring on dedicated and passionate individuals to fulfill this contract.

The majority if work will take place between January - June 2023.

NOTE! The performance of work on this job takes place in remote areas of California. Candidates are housed at different locations during the contract period and would be able to return home periodically as time permits.

Job Description

The UAS Field Operations Manager reports directly to the Project Manager and is responsible for performing the managerial, supervisory, professional, technical, and administrative work required to build and manage a successful utilities team. This position will include a high level of managing field crews, and data personnel. Team management skills will be necessary and must include clear/effective communication skills, emotional intelligence, high-level of organization, the ability to self-reflect, high-level problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills. The main goal of the UAS Field Operations Manager should be to keep an effective team, including the field crews and data team, safely through a scope of work.

All projects will involve managing field crews, conducting utilities inspections and a data team working hand in hand to produce a high-level product for customers. The UAS Field Operations Manager must be proficient at all tasks assigned as to properly manage them and evaluate those positions. This position will be working with multiple employees with different backgrounds and abilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee scoping and implementation of utilities inspections
  • High level of following and understanding proper procedures
  • Monitor budgetary team needs
  • Work to timeframes and monitor work packages, to include flight operations, customer management, and human resources
  • Proactively improve management of the project
  • Promote an environment around safety, teamwork, attention to detail and timeliness
  • Ability to professionally discuss tough conversations with customers and employees
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate with a range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to build and maintain highly effective working relationships with a range of people
  • Proficiency with a wide range of technology
  • Please note that the UAS Field Operations Manager must be proficient and confident to oversee duties of a crew which include the Remote Pilot in Command

Skills and Competencies

  • Possession of a FAA Part 107 Certificate
  • Exceptional commitment to safety
  • Considerable experience and flight hours on sUAS or complex sUAS
  • Experience with state and federal rules and regulations governing unmanned operations in the national airspace system
  • “Do whatever it takes” mentality to help the overall success of the mission
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening
  • Works well within a team environment
  • Humble and hungry for exciting work

  • Manage and coordinate with GIS/Data specialists in conjunction with inspections

  • Encourage and facilitate crews to maintain a professional standard for our customer and the representation of MissionGO

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment will constantly change and will include but is not limited to, extensive exposure to sun, heat, cold, wind. Often employees will be faced with considerable terrain challenges such as aggressive elevation changes, up and down, and different footing challenges such as soft sandy bases, rocky base, and thick vegetation.
