An Observation on FAA Drone Rules

I can only control what I do, and you can only control what you do.

FAA- "Report all commercial activity conducted by non-Part 107 licensees to the local FAA FSDO"...

If something goes bad, it is the responsibility of the pilot. That is no secret. As for what it will do to the reputation of the 107 pilot, that point is moot. Everything that goes bad with drones puts more pressure on the rules. This notion that passing a 60 question test with no flight...

FAA- "Report all commercial activity conducted by non-Part 107 licensees to the local FAA FSDO"...

Step one: Make it legal for anyone who has pictures to sell them. No license required.

FAA- "Report all commercial activity conducted by non-Part 107 licensees to the local FAA FSDO"...

If they are being dangerous I would turn them in. If they are not being dangerous I would not. There are some folks around that would turn in their neighbor for videoing his nieces wedding just to experience the process. That is not what we need in my opinion.

    Flying drone out sight

If a kid is missing, and I have the ability to pursue finding the child. I will find the child if I have the talent to do so.

Owning a drone does not make you a surveyor or photogrammetrist.

Technology challenging the statuesque. Who could have seen that coming?

Should I try for a UAS degree?

I suggest that you look at the curriculum for the UAS program, and from that you will see what that degree is preparing you to do. Also, look at what people with that UAS degree are finding in the marketplace relating to job availability and wages. No mater what line of work you go into, it...

    Airspace Question

Part of being on your side is to keep you from getting in trouble.

    Airspace Question

The elevation of the airport is not a factor and does not impact your flight. You may not fly in Class E airspace without authorization. With the information given, you are not legal to fly.

My new beta website published ...

Very appealing when you open the site. Under "services" you start out defending the price you are going to charge (you get what you pay for, etc.). I would save that till after you have priced the job. As a customer, that page put me on the defensive. I would use that page to show the services...

Flying over people and/or moving vehicles

I order to get flight over people (at any altitude) we will need a way to protect the people on the ground. It may be some sort of controlled descent device, but more likely is a matter of redundancy, so that when a system fails (such as power failure, or broken prop) there is a separate...

    Aircraft/Helo pilots vs Drone pilots

As you can see, it is basically the same set of rules for everybody up there.

    Aircraft/Helo pilots vs Drone pilots

The airplane stuff doesn't matter to drones, but as you note, they still have some control after power failure. My comments about flying over people and their stuff was intended to be part of the drone conversation. Since you bring it up, the airplane/helicopter guys do have some restrictions...

    Aircraft/Helo pilots vs Drone pilots

Aviation pilots have accepted this responsibility for a very long time. If you don't fly over people, you won't hurt people. If you don't fly over other peoples stuff, you won't hurt their stuff. We must always 'expect' that our drone will fall out of the sky, and fly accordingly. That is...

    Aircraft/Helo pilots vs Drone pilots

Note the difference between 'fault' and 'responsibility'. It may not be the airliner's fault that a flock of birds stopped their engine, but it is their responsibility that this event doesn't cause damage or death when the plane crashes to the ground. As a UAV pilot, it may not be your fault...
