Here's a decent overview of terminologies and how maps are positioned that's not too painful.

@GFields Thanks! I will keep those 2 on my mind, leaning towards the Air 2s @adm_geomatics Thanks friend. Sounds like exactly what I'll be doing in the meantime. I had to google a couple of the things you mentioned (GNSS, RTK True Network...

Hey Everyone - Breaking the ice. Part 107 certified recently, and about to dive into starting the business. The next question is though.. what niche or direction. Mapping most likely, although I have little knowledge in Construction... for now...

@Wing Welcome to the life! The Air 2S is a good starter bird. Pair that with an Emlid RS2/2+/3 for ground control and you can get some pretty good results whether you are mapping small properties or just modeling. If your area has a free RTK...

Welcome to professional drone piloting. It's all fun & games until it becomes a job, and people are depending on you for results. I would give you a pep talk but chances are that if you continue your flights will become more difficult and the...

If it was just below your line of site and you were holding the controller at waist level in your hands, could that have put the chain link between the controller and the drone? You may have found an interesting issue people don’t think about...

For sure. What one hears about the most tends to becomes their standard. It's the whole point of marketing.

Well, the #1 reason for not choosing Metashape now is because it has Russian origins, but in my opinion it's marketing. I actually had our IT department tell me that we would never get Metashape because of its origins and it's a "security risk"...

Thanks for sharing! I am still not sure how so many people pick Pix4D over Metashape. My new use for Metashape is using our state LIDAR data to make DEMs (DSM or DTM) for various reasons.

On part one, yes directly to the CORs using a separate hotspot that connects my phone and the RS2. On question 2, yes, I use a dedicated Wifi Hotspot wiht its own SIM. On my beach project I am always within 10 feet of the RS2 so maybe I will...
  • adm_geomatics
The use of a hotspot was an issue for me, not that it didn't work, but I was more fix on being able to use the RS2+ ability to be its own hotspot. Not needing to use my phone or buy another hotspot so it can connect to whichever protocol I am...

Are you saying connecting the drone directly to the CORS? I have gotten fixes with both the drone and the Emlid receivers from 60km that were stable but of course had bad residuals and am actually pretty comfortable with drone work from 30-35km...

I guess I am lucky. My local RTK service's closest base is 20km away. I obtain FIX in under a minute and have only lost that status once while up and flying. The only time I had trouble obtain FIX was in the heart of our city with an older Emlid...
