    Drone crashes - internal investigations

I was wondering if any of the LE using drones have a template for pilots to fill out if they crash a drone? This form would be for them to annotate the weather, time, location, altitude, reason for flight.....things like this. This would be used for internal investigations for our department...

    NOTAMs

LUIS.....I know this is late, but wanted to let you know that we file Notams when we are going to be operating near class D or class E airspace. But that is only when it is a planned flight like working at a festival or scheduled event. When we are responding to an emergency call: SWAT, or...

Anyone using the EVO II for building searches?

Our department has been using the Mavic Enterprise dual for building searches and it has done a very good job, but the FLIR camera on it is just not good enough to use outdoors at altitude. The EVO II dual has a 320 and 640 version FLIR available on their dual which would make it very usable...

DJI Spark for Indoor Incident Resolution for SWAT

The elios is a great platform if you are just using it for video, but it is so **** expensive for what it does it put a lot of departments off. $30,000. I can get a Mavic Enterprise or EVO II with a Flir camera as well for far less money.

    Accident Scenes

I am a retired Colorado State Trooper and currently work for Hays County Sheriff's Office in Texas and I was a level II accident investigator. Like you sir, I could usually have the average crash scene cleared within about 45 minutes with the report just about completed. Sure wish I had drone...

    Accident Scenes

Very soon I think you will see PD and State Troopers who are accident re-constructionist using drones to map the scene. Much more effective and efficient than what they are doing now. Right now, accident re-construction takes several hours. A drone can do it in 30 minutes with a finished...

PD that has embraced the use of sUAS

We (Hays County Sheriff's Office - San Marcos Texas) have had our drone program for coming up on two years now. A lot of trials and tribulations but we are getting pretty good at it. We have worked with SWAT, done search and rescue, missing person's, foot pursuits, barricaded suspects, hostage...

DJI Spark for Indoor Incident Resolution for SWAT

I know I am a little late to this party but we use the Mavic Enterprise duel for indoor searches. We have found that it has the best connectivity and we have flown it into a house from an 1/4 mile away. Never lost connectivity while inside the house. We are going to be looking at the EVO 2...

    Texas game wardens

If you are operating as an LE agency and using the drones for LE purposes, you more than likely have a COA that has relieved you of the "line of sight" restriction. We operate with a COA (Certificate of Authorization) from the FAA.

Looking for some "Experienced Input" with working with an active SWAT/SRT team

Like y'all, we (Hays County Texas) have been using drones for the last year with SWAT on several different types of calls. As for the illumination inside of buildings, we have a Enterprise that has a flood light attached to the drone that we can turn on and off and it operates fantastic...

Size vs. Flight Time vs Camera vs...

Increasing the flight time to one hour would be good, but with that I would love to see a gimbal on a phantom 5 or 6 that would allow you to change camera systems. The drone is just the vehicle, the camera makes the difference. And different jobs call for different cameras and lenses.

    Are 107 Holders really Pilots?

I guess it comes down to this. The BACK (not the front) of your FAA license will say something very specific. Now how you "read into" that is the difference here. The back of my 107 says "Remote pilot unmanned aircraft system". Let's break that down a bit. Remote = means you are not actually...

    Best Drone For Commercial Use

The Inspire II is a great platform that can be used with several different camera systems. We use it with the Zenmuse x4s camera and the DJI ground station pro app for mapping. A little pricey, but great end product.
