AeroPoints (Ground Control Points) - Anyone use them?

Can you tell us your setup? Specifically what PPK system you’re using. Thanks!

Using the DJI Spark for mapping

Jeff- Less talk, more flying. [emoji12] I originally overlooked this thread because I have no intention of ever owning a spark. And we all know there are much better options for mapping (for honestly not that much more; P4P $1500. Drones are an expensive hobby. Wait till you get into building...

    DJI Event Janurary 23

This was a really disappointing announcement. Definitely geared more toward the consumer.

Buy DJI spark now, or wait until the Tuesday announcement?

I’ve been thinking about a less expensive alternative for situations when the Inspire 2 is overkill. But not pulling the trigger on anything until this announcement. I’ve got my fingers crossed for either a 4K mavic or p5 with retractable landing gear.

    Questions for part 107 pilots

I went through the remotepilot101 course. It was super helpful and nicely presented. Jason is a really solid, nice guy who knows his stuff. And it’s for life so I have something to refer back to when it’s time to renew my license.

FAA is certainly trying to catch up

I’ve had a painstaking slow experience with the FAA and their waiver process. It turns out the FAA did not expect the 60k some people that got licensed in 2017. First their process was to use the online portal, differentiating airspace authorization and waiver from other regulation exceptions...

    Phantom 4 Pro RTK

FYI, unless they change something from their “RTK” m210, this is not true RTK. There is no correction network. No base station. Also the precise position is only used for positioning the aircraft. Not written to exif.

    Matrice 600 with Lidar

I’ve looked into it quite extensively but haven’t actually flown it first hand. You should reach out to Jeff at LiDAR USA LiDAR USA - UAV Drone 3D LiDAR Mobile Modeling Mapping GIS Experts. Most vendors are recommending a m600 if you’re thinking LiDAR. Carrying capacity, prop redundancy, stability.

    Intro

I’m a Survey Technician for a civil engineering and land surveying firm in the Portland, OR area. I’ve been Part 107 licensed for close to a year. I create high-resolution orthomosaics and elevation data to support our surveying work. I started typing up a description of what I fly and...
