Are you clicking on the "FLY" button on the bottom of the Air Control screen? If so, it'll push you into it's connectivity screen. I usually obtain my LAANC approval and then back out of the application to use my controller.

I wouldn't use that battery any longer. I wouldn't consider it safe in flight or when being charged.
