    Ahhh change is good.

We are a surveying/mapping company and would be very interested in your results with the RTK 4P. We have not upgraded from the 4P because of our many years with static and RTK GPS issues and suggestions we wait to see if it is really worth it. Thanks in advance

When is it OK to contact a client about getting paid for work?

As a registered land surveyor, I'm required by my state to have a contract to perform services. I always send, at least, a letter defining the project and the deliverables the client can expect for the fee quoted, with a line for signature of approval at the bottom. If they won't approve it, I...

    Timely Class D FAA Authorization

That's a good idea. We have contracts to fly several areas in Wisconsin twice a year. I'll try that next time to be covered. The first one I applied for was in a 0 altitude grid. The Faa told me 0 chance of getting approval on those. Thanks

    Timely Class D FAA Authorization

The last one I applied for, the FAA called me and said they have 30 days to reply. I rarely get that much lead time for a project.

Just had my first airspace authorization approved (and after only 4 days too!)

My first attempt, not so lucky. I had a project in El Centro California, last week, 1 mile from IPL airport. The grid map called out a 0 elevation. I filed two requests for two separate dates on the FAA DroneZone site and got a confirmation of the submitted request. After a week with no answer I...

AeroPoints (Ground Control Points) - Anyone use them?

I found this intriguing. Our projects require a lot more than just contour lines and line work. We use RTK for initial control, basis of bearings and elevations, invert elevations, panel control verifications etc. Using the 3D Survey panels is quick, easy and reusable. Not saying this is a bad...

    S900, inspire 1 pro with x5

When we proof our flights, the crews check hard points, manholes, curbs, slabs, GCP's, we then interpolate contours to get as close an idea as we can. Results of .10 to .25' are common. For a topographic map, that usually assumes 1/2 a contour interval, is good topo in our neck of the woods. We...

    S900, inspire 1 pro with x5

We've been using a P4P with 75/75 overlap. Flights at 210' to 280'. The field proof surveys have shown excellent topographic results. Better then normal A/C flights. Maybe I'm missing something.

    4 or 4 pro ?

Bought a Phantom 4 a couple of years ago and have used it commercially both in Tucson and Milwaukee. This last couple of months we have had a lot of problems with our final product in Milwaukee. They seem to involve temperature, altitude because of winds aloft, etc. We have been told that the 4P...

What is the highest and the lowest temperature that You flight was made?

Flew 3 topographic surveys in Milwaukee 3 weeks ago. Temps were in the 15 to 20 F range. Flight was fine but battery life was half of what we get in Tucson. We kept the batteries warm just prior to each flight.

    iPad in the cold

Flew Tuesday and Wednesday in Milwaukee for (3) topographic mapping projects. Average temps 12 - 24 F. 1) A 20 minute mission took 3 batteries and drained a Samsung phone. Kept everything inside until launch time and hovered about 45 seconds before launch. Altitude was 200'. 2) The winds were a...
