I’m considering adding a DJI Smart Controller to my arsenal. But I have not used one or heard much about their utility. I am mainly curious if you can use 3rd party mission planning apps on the controller, such as Pix4Dcapture and others.

Anyone have hands on experience with this controller? Is it worth buying, or am I better off with my iPad mini? A firsthand account of its capabilities would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I got a SC with my new M2Zoom. So far, I'm impressed. I added Litchi and it seems to work identical to the version on my ipad mini. I was also pleasantly surprised by the new Waypoints app - it has some features I like better than Lithci. I like that the SC automatically recognizes when I connect to the M2ED and switches from DJIGo to the Pilot app.

I commented on this over at the Mavic forum:

@MavicMapper our customers RAVE about the smart controller. Especially about the speed, rather than waiting for an iPad or smart device to load up, as well as the screen brightness, it's very clear to see outside in the sun, which is a common complaint for standard controllers here in Florida.

And it operates as an Android device, but only supports some 3rd party apps, which if I remember correctly, Pix4Dcapture and Drone Deploy are not supported. Hopefully DJI comes up with the support for it soon.
