As of this writing, 22 towns in New Jersey have requested and received TFRs from the FAA effective now through January 17th. The list can be found here. This is in response to the public (and government officials) hysteria that has been going on regarding the many nighttime drone sightings. I'm guessing that the FAA has established these TFRs in order to weed out those who actually follow FAA regulations from the yahoos who just buy a drone and put it into the air without any concern for safety. I'm hoping the FAA and local law enforcement take action to jam the signal of any drone seen flying during the TFR, bring it down, and impose severe penalties that are then publicized. Until that is done, we who follow the regulations will be viewed as just another idiot with a drone in the air. It will be interesting to see what the FAA plan is here.

Unfortunately, this is likely to interfere with legitimate commercial drone flying at those locations for business during this TFR period.

It took way too long for a response, but I think this will work to stop the hysteria and knock it off the news cycle. Remember, for those 107 Pilots out there, you can request an SGI Waiver as long as you have a Statement of work in the identified area.

It's not just NJ now, many local stations (and the public) are reporting on drone sighting that shouldn't even be news. They make drone pilots out to be some sort of criminal because sensationalism sells.
