In general, the more drones that are used and seen by the public the more the public will just start viewing them as the new norm. Might take a generation to happen, but it will. But I think the NYPD might have an easier time dealing with the FAA and getting waivers than the rest of us, being they are a government department.

Hopefully, as Police Departments begin flying drones, there will develop a bit more comradery and understanding between police and those who fly legally under Part 107 and hobbyists who obey the regulations.
