Cheap Commercial insurance any on heard of theses guys?

Well the IRDA website explicitly says it covers commercial use, but I've yet to read a review from a customer...

Drone Amplified Android App now has Elevation Maps

Thanks for the announcement. The app looks pretty interesting so I downloaded the beta. One issue that I noticed right away was when I was trying to download Offline Maps. The message said to zoom in to frame the area I wanted to download, and then to hit the Download button. I zoomed into an...

    Part 107 Registration Card

It will most likely just be an online module, not an in-person thing. The FAA's rationale listed in the NPRM is to reduce the costs involved with traveling to a testing center.

In Section 107.39, Operations Over Human Beings, what does "over people" mean?

No, the FAA tried to be very clear with that sentence: they are saying that regardless of the length of time you are over a person, it is completely prohibited. (absent a waiver)

Cheap Commercial insurance any on heard of theses guys?

Have any of you signed up for this IDRA insurance, and if so, what has your experience been? Their website leaves a lot to be desired, but the price is very competitive.

    Part 107 Recurrency Test?

Well the proposed NPRM goes through the FAA's reasoning for changing the recurrent qualifications method from testing to an online module. They want a system where it would be easier for them to update the content to cover new topics that come up. Using the legacy system of test centers doesn't...

    Part 107 Registration Card

There is no requirement in the regulations to actually carry your test results with you. You just need to be able to present them to the FAA upon request, which can be sometime after the ramp check. FAA inspectors already deal with this same situation for Private Pilots who need to maintain...

    Part 107 Recurrency Test?

Well we already have an example of the FAA making recurrent training free, for those pilots who are Part 61 current. They just complete an online course at no charge.

    Kiss em’ goodbye.

You can read the draft proposal yourself: https://www.faa.gov/uas/programs_partnerships/DOT_initiatives/media/2120-AK85_NPRM_Operations_of_Small_UAS_Over_People.pdf Waivers would still be issued for those operations that don't fit into the proposed changes to the rules.

    Renewing Part 107 Remote Pilot?

Along with the new proposals for allowing flight over people and night flights without waiver, the FAA just proposed changing the renewal process: instead of taking the Recurrent Exam (and paying $150 for the privilege to the testing center), in the future they want to have a recurrent...

Getting FAA Part 107 Certificate Being a non-US Citizen

Have you considered having a US citizen / permanent resident friend register the drone for you? Seems like if you had someone willing to register it for you, you could still legally fly it, assuming you had a Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate while operating it. (in theory the drone would need...

What has been you experience flying with AirMap?

It's pretty simple. Once you are on the ArcGIS site, you can just search for your location in the box at the top left and zoom to a location. You can also change the base map to satellite imagery by clicking the box that looks like it has 4 squares on it. Feel free to play around with it, since...

What has been you experience flying with AirMap?

ArcGIS is a reference to the FAA's published UAS data site.

What has been you experience flying with AirMap?

I was interested in trying AirMap to fly, but I've been unable to get AirMap to connect when using my Samsung Note8. The button to connect shows up, but after hitting it, it launches the "flying" interface, but my drone & controller never seem to connect. Kind of annoying.

Reasons for getting "N" numbers from the FAA

Be careful about applying for N numbers if you don't really need one. There have been some previous posts about owners getting large tax bills from state revenue agencies for their "registered aircraft" after they applied for an N number. It appears that some of these agencies monitor the...
