    Farewell Everyone

Hey Dave. That's one drone I would like to get someday (if my retirement budget can afford it), but only after the FAA starts allowing BVLOS without the need for a VO. (Then again, I could always join a local club for that.) We'll see. Thanks for the well wishes and forum friendship over the...

    Farewell Everyone

Well folks... it's coming to the time that I will be riding off into the sunset. I will officially be retiring (at age 72) on June 1st after 49 years in the Environmental Services industry and will be passing down the company drone to the next operator. I began flying a drone (Phantom 2...

    The Annual Liability Question

Our insurance carrier requires the same at my place of employment, plus information about each of our operators including Remote ID Certificate number. We insure the operators. I don't believe damage to the drone is covered because replacement cost of a drone is not a concern.

    Extracting Building Footprints

I doubt if any automated process would be very accurate considering all of the building shadows in an urban setting due to sun angle. As a person who often draws maps manually from aerials using CADD, I can tell you first-hand it is often difficult to determine building footprints, even by eye.

New FAA TFRs to Counter New Jersey Drone Activity

Certainly doesn't help the public attitude towards drones when a massive drone display comes tumbling down onto people causing injuries like the in Orlando this week.

Mapping a woodland area -advice sought on gimbal pitch settings

So basically fly a crossing pattern, and then a second one rotated 45 degrees to the first?

New FAA TFRs to Counter New Jersey Drone Activity

As of this writing, 22 towns in New Jersey have requested and received TFRs from the FAA effective now through January 17th. The list can be found (https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html']here. This is in response to the public (and government officials) hysteria that has been going on regarding...

Mapping a woodland area -advice sought on gimbal pitch settings

I mapped a small wooded/marshy parcel a few weeks back with most leaves having dropped. I generally use Drone Pilot Pro (by Maps Made Easy) and usually fly with an 80/80 overlap. MME recommends a 90/90 overlap in heavily wooded areas and doesn't mention camera angle - but I decided to fly...

Terrain Mapping One Square mile ?

So many technical questions and answers here, but I have a very basic one. Why aren't you charging your client for the software subscription and the processing fees for this massive undertaking. Surely this can't be just a personal project that you are doing for fun. Just curious.

Can a drone be registered by a company?

The company I work for has been expanding and I anticipate establishing additional drone operators in a few of our other offices. Up until now, I have personally registered the company drone(s) that I fly but, going forward, it would seem more logical and convenient to have a DroneZone account...

    Important lesson learned

So a few weeks ago, I had photographed a nighttime high school football game with my P4P which I had posted in a previous thread. This week, I was asked to photograph a company event with the drone, so a few days beforehand I decided to run through some of the camera and flight settings like I...

    Fun Assignment

I shot directly up to 299' AGL (highest LAANC allowed at that location) and never flied any lower, not wanting to interfere with the game. But that metal fencing was just below my LOS of the drone when it was at the game, so it definitely could have been a factor that caused the disconnect.

    Fun Assignment

Okay, here's the followup. It wasn't exactly "fun". I found it very stressful flying in the dark, having only done it once before and not to the same extent as this time. I also had the added pressure that this would be the last home game of the season held at night. Rather than launch on...

    Replacing UAS license card

I needed to have mine replaced a few years back and was surprised to discovered that the replacement Remote Pilot Certificates do not show an issue date. At least mine didn't.
