    Camera settings

Thanks very much, that's extremely helpful. I hadn't considered setting to shutter priority and the ISO to auto. Does this work OK in dull conditions? i.e. does the resulting high ISO not cause too much noise? I was minded to set it to auto and let the app slow the A/C automatically in response...

    Camera settings

Hi, Can anyone suggest in camera settings for mapping (sharpening, contrast and saturation) bearing in mind that I need to use jpegs rather than RAW for processing using Maps Made Easy? I'm using a P4P v2.0

    Flying near railways - UK

I've finally had a reply from Network Rail. They have said "I can confirm that you are allowed to fly within 150m (but no closer than 50m) to our infrastructure" This is, of course, with a PFCO. The CAA have confirmed the same so any bylaws conform to the ANO

    Flying near railways - UK

Thanks, but the standard permission allows for flying within congested areas to within 50m of structures - CAP 722 para 3.25 https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP%20722%20Sixth%20Edition%20March%202015.pdf What I'm trying to establish is whether their statement that I've quoted above is...

    Flying near railways - UK

Network rail states: You must not fly a drone anywhere near the railway – it could result in a serious accident. It is a criminal offence to fly a drone on, over or within 50 metres of the railway or within 150 metres in built up areas. It is a criminal offence to fly a drone on, over or within...

The Air Navigation (Amendment) Order 2018

How do you work out whether an aerodrome is a 'protected'. The ANO states that a protected aerodrome is (a)an EASA certified aerodrome, (b)a Government aerodrome, (c)a national licensed aerodrome, or (d)an aerodrome that is prescribed or of a prescribed description. Is there a list or an easy...

    Drone test

Thanks, I thought that might be the case but it would be useful if the CAA could confirm this!

    Drone test

Does anyone have any idea if PFCO holders will need to undergo the test being introduced in November 2019? I assume that we might be exempt? I can't find any references to this on the CAA website

    UK PFCO Discussion and Help

I used RUAS in Wales (used to be called Resource Group). I found them very good and, although I had to wait for my flight test, that was due to bad weather rather than RUAS! Good support for the ops manual as well as post-course support and advice.

    Flying under helicopter routes

I've been asked to submit a quote for a job which would require flying under a helicopter route in London. I know that the max height is reduced to 300' but would I need any further permissions from the CAA? Thanks

    UK PFCO

Good points, thanks. I hadn't considered the 400' above surface level issue

    UK PFCO

Thanks, that's great. I've now done all that except changing refs to 7kg.

Cost effective ways to obtain GPS data for Ground Control Points

The most cost effective approach would be to not use ground control points at all but to improve the positional accuracy of the orthomosaic by georeferencing against existing satellite imagery using GIS. This will not be survey grade accuracy (but you didn't need that) but will be an improvement...
