I've seen a lot of good references and links to books, after-action reports, and articles talking about sUAS operations and use-cases spread over many threads. I thought it would be beneficial to have them all collected in one location.

If you come across or already have good resources please link them here with maybe a 2-3 sentence description. Any types of operations are welcome.

First to Deploy - sUAS News - The Business of Drones

"A guide to the emerging technology of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), their capabilities, the sensors they can carry, and the data they can collect. This book is a chronicle of the development of a remotely piloted system and the migration to fully autonomous aircraft for Search & Rescue/Recovery operations in the United States. Unmanned aerial systems are reviewed from a standpoint of actual field use, not theory. Several missions are detailed by the author and demonstrate what has truly worked and the results that can be expected from a small unmanned platform."

Thanks @BigAl07

"The Luera TREX (training exercise) prescribed fire (Type 3 organization) was a wildfire training assignment designed to burn up to 10,000 acres of New Mexico State Trust Land southwest of Magdalena, NM, at the same time providing wildfire training opportunities to newer firefighters. Through a presentation with the Pikes Peak Fire Learning Network, Mike Caggiano / CSU invited Mike, Greg, and Steve to attend this TREX, with the specific goal us using Unmanned Aircraft to facilitate the Operations Section during this incident. A ‘Drone Module’ was add to the Type 3 organization. Between June 1 and 7, 2017, almost 70 hours of flight time was accumulated, with many practical missions and scenarios executed. This document is a summary of those lessons learned."

Thanks @FireFlyer

"This White Paper will describe the 2015 Wimberley Flood, and the experiences observed first-hand by members of the Wimberley Fire Department’s aviation unit and members of the Austin Fire Department’s Robotic Emergency Deployment (RED) Team. Lessons learned from this emergency response will reflect specific experiences from the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs). It is the hope that future UAS emergency responses will benefit from and be enhanced by these experiences."

"GeoCue Group recently partnered with the National Park Service (NPS) in a pilot project to assess culturally significant areas within Gettysburg National Military Park using small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS). The area of interest (AOI) for this project was the western face of Little Round Top (Figure 1). Little Round Top was the location of a defensive stand by the Union army during the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg."
