Does that mean ditching DJI Go, though, along with its updates? These kinds of things tend to have unintended consequences, in my experience. How do you do this without causing other problems?

I haven't found any issues with either of my drones. The only thing is each time you do updates geo fence needs to be disabled again. If someone isn't comfortable disabling it, then don't do it.
All it takes is a google search to find the hack, I won't post it here.
