So much hysteria over drones.
Pretty good read

New report: Only a small percentage of drone reports pose safety risk

The Unmanned Aircraft Safety Team (UAST) Drone Sightings Working Group has released a new report on the FAA’s 3,714 drone sightings reports collected by flight crews, air traffic controllers and citizens from November 2015 to March 2017.

The report found that only a small percentage of drone reports pose a safety risk, while the vast majority are simply sightings.

Interesting report, particularly as they seem to have considered all sighting reports legitimate, showing no skepticism even though a lot of the reported sightings clearly are not drones at all.
The FAA database is full of reports such as these:

In the past, pilots often reported UFOs and (almost) no-one believes that all of those reports were of flying saucers.
Reported sightings get a lot of publicity which puts the idea of drone/plane interactions in the minds of pilots.
The see something and it becomes a drone.
Another thread here: Near Miss with Beach Baron
... has video of a pilot seeing something.
He says, he couldn't identify the object but in a very short time he has convinced himself it was a drone because that's the first thing the pilot finds in his mental filing cabinet of things he might see, not because of any evidence.

The FAA sightings reports are available here: UAS Sightings Report
They make interesting reading.

Yeah the good news is with continued reports like this maybe we can help dispel some of the hysteria.
Sadly we battle the sloppy operators who don't think the rules apply.
I still think eventually some clown is going to end up being the poster boy for a big fine, or worse.
