Hi Everyone. Hope everyone's having a good start to 2018.
My name is Troy Zimmer, I'm a Geographer with a consulting company up here in Regina, Saskatchewan, called J.D. Mollard and Associates (2010) Limited. Our company specializes in the analysis and interpretation of aerial and satellite imagery and GIS datasets to support engineering, geotechnical and environmental projects. We started flying UAVs about 3 years ago (Phantom Vision 2+) as they just seemed like a natural fit for the various work we were already doing with traditional (stereo) air photography.
So far I've mostly used the UAVs for field support work, taking oblique images of field work sites, generating orthomosaics from vertical shots (for base mapping), and generating surface meshes for volumetric analysis. I have been working on some applications using NIR (near infra-red) for site contamination and maybe even archaeological mapping -- hopefully this spring/summer we'll be able to get a test project off the ground using an NIR camera mounted to one of our Phantom 4s.
Anyways, look forward to talking with everyone and hearing what others are doing in the field.
Cheers,
Troy
