I am a 52 year old wanting to do a career change. For the past 30 years, I have been a property tax consultant and I am in need of a change. I am working on my Part 107 right now and want to get into construction photogrammetry. Also, I am father of 6 kids (hers, mine, and ours) all grown and have one grandchild and another on the way. I am excited to be on this new adventure.

My advice is to not quit your day job right away. Test the market and make sure you can make a living at it before fully committing. All these YouTube influencer videos make it look easy and leave you with the impression that you will make thousands a week. Most pilots don't make that though. Many full-time ones spent 12-20K on equipment, then go out of business within 6 months (then expect to get full price back on their used equipment). Your market may be saturated, leaving you to scramble for the low paying bits of jobs out there. Like any other business, do good market research before you even start and understand your market. Talk to at least 10 construction project managers and see if their companies even have a budget for it. Most don't, but that seems to depend on the area of the country you are in.

Rob,
That is excellent advice and I greatly appreciate it. I will definitely do the market research before I even think about jumping in full time. Thank you for taking the time to give me good actionable advice.
