Good morning, I am a new member to the forum - thanks in advance for any help/guidance.

I tried to do a quick search before posting and wasn’t able to find any discussions related specifically to this question: I am trying to find a drone that will allow me to perform/record inspections of underground CMP (corrugated metal pipe) systems. I do not need mapping, survey, LiDar, etc. just video documentation of existing systems that are required to be annually inspected by local municipalities.

The systems are often hundreds of feet long and range in diameters from 48” up to 120”+ with the majority of our systems being +/- 72” CMP. We are land development consultants, so most of our work is on the design/permitting side, but we do have to inspect/certify the designs post-construction and we’re often asked to provide the annual certifications once the projects are complete. Looking for ideas re: models to consider (we can’t realistically afford to purchase a $50k+ drone for something like this), so I would really appreciate anyone’s thoughts, recommendations, warnings, and/or lessons learned on this one. Thanks again!

The Elios familiy of systems is designed for this.

On the cheap a FPV drone could be made/modified to do this. Your biggest hurdle will be radio connectivity between the drone and controller.

Also any water on the floor is obviously an end of life event for the drone in a crash. If you tried to use a DJI Avata/2 any water on the floor could make its positioning sensors not work correctly.

If there is no water, a DJI Avata 2 with light kit could work if the pipes are straight. Long distances and turns would affect radio connectivity.
