Hello to the forum from snowy Colorado!
I am a Part 107 pilot that has been flying drones non-commercially for several years. I am an engineer by trade and do a lot of work on communications towers. I had flown my personal aircraft, a Phantom 2 with HD-3D gimbal, FPV and all the trimmings, up towers for fun quite a number of times and saw the value of this in a commercial application. That led me to pursue my RP certificate, and I found that since I was already a rated private pilot, all I had to do was take the online FAA safety course and submit the application (no fee, no exam). Took a week to get the temporary RP certificate. It really couldn't have been any easier.
Since then, I have been using my company-owned Phantom 4 Pro+ to inspect communications towers and watch over workers up on towers. It has changed the whole dynamic of this work.
